There are hundreds of things you can enjoy in Phuket, from dining at the nice restaurant by the sea to relaxing in a world-class spa. But do you know that you can also entertain yourself with free activities in this paradise-like island. Here are our favourite picks that might give you some ideas for your next visit.
1. Swim in the Andaman Sea
Phuket has a nickname of the pearl of Andaman for a reason. The island has beautiful, warm and mostly calm sea all year round. If you book beachfront accommodation, it is most likely that you will be enjoying swimming in the ocean all day long.
Even your place is not by the beach, it is still more than possible for you to be able to dip in the ocean. Surin, Kamala, Kata, Bangtao, and Nai Harn are good spots for swimming.
2. Sunbath on the Beach
Resided in one of the most beautiful tropical countries, Phuket has what it takes to be a great spot for enjoying the sunshine. There are many magnificent beaches in Phuket, where the sand is as white as powder and as soft as silk.
If you are into tranquility, where you can read your favorite book while enjoying sunbathing, we recommend spots like Kata, Karon, Nai Harn and Yanui beach. However, if you like it more vibrant, Patong is your answer.
3. Watch Sunset at Phromthep Cape
The most classic way to take in the stunning views of Phuket is to go and watch the sunset at Phromthep Cape. This is one of the busiest places in Phuket during sunset time as it offers the best view of the east and southeast of the island.
Sunset is more stunning here because the cape, shaping like a path into the ocean, is facing toward the sun making you feel as if you could walk into the sea and disappear into the fading sun.
Due to its popularity, Phromthep has tons of visitors daily. So be prepared with the tour groups, locals, lovebirds or even wedding studio teams.
There are other things that you can actually do at Phromthep such as dining at the restaurant or visiting the lighthouse museum for a better view from above.
However, if you are staying at one of our Phuket luxury villa rentals, you may not need to travel to any places to watch the sunset. You can enjoy it at your own private villa. You may also see our posts about the private villas in Phuket w/ the best ocean views.
4. Walking Along the Old Streets of Phuket Town
While it is all about the beach and the sunshine in Phuket, this seaside city has interesting history awaits to be told. That’s why visiting Phuket old quarter is a must on your list.
Phuket old town is a combination of several historic roads, namely; Thalang, Phang Nga, Krabi, Dibuk and Yaorat. These areas are famous for beautiful historical Sino-Portuguese architectures and of course, local delicious food. You can take a long walk from one street to another – they all are connected.
Along the way, there will be museums, local restaurants, local Thai souvenir shops, vintage guesthouses hidden in the beautiful colourful Sino-Chinese buildings.
5. Roam the night at Bangla Road
If you want to see how exciting Phuket at night can be, then head to Bangla Road Kathu district. The road becomes alive after the sun sets. You can have fun with roaring music, drinking beers at a competitive price, talking to sexy girls or just roam around this 400-metre long street for free without the interference of traffic as the road will be closed for the night. Note that Bangla road may not be suitable for children.
