The Kathu Street Cultural Festival is set to come back again from 30 July to 1 August, along the street in front of Kathu Municipal Hall. This cultural event was first held by Kathu people in an attempt to preserve and promote their tradition and way of life for the next generation.

Along the three-day event, there will be cultural performances from the locals and students from Prince of Songkla University to entertain visitors. Apart from the contemporary cultural shows, this festival will highlight its Thai-Chinese community by offering shows such as lion dance, martial arts and parades of people dressing in Chinese-style attire.

Visitors will have a chance to learn the meaning and the arrangement of how to set up an offering for gods in Chinese culture. For those who love to shop for local goods, there are plenty in this event. The walking street will feature many stalls selling local foods, snacks, fruits, gifts, and souvenirs or even a street live music performance.

There will be an exhibition dedicated to Kathu history when it began, and where it is today.

Kathu is conveniently located between Patong and Phuket Town. Originally, the community has relied on rice farming and tin mining. Most of its residences are a mix of Thai and Chinese people. Therefore, the community has its distinctiveness in their lifestyles and customs.

Visitors to the event will have a chance to pay homage for good fortune at the three sacred shrines respected by the locals

This is one of the most interesting events held in Phuket during the green season that visitors to the island should not miss.
