Koh Samui is a great destination for family – it has plenty of kid-friendly accommodation and nice weather. Although Samui seems like good place for holidays with kids, there are still many things you will need to prepare. To make your Samui holiday with kids a stress-free one, use the guide below as you will find:

  • What to bring?
  • Where to stay?
  • Kid-friendly accommodation
  • Recommended activities with kids

1. What to bring to Samui?

Adults can usually travel light, but not kids. When packing for kids, the basic rule-of-thumb is “to double” the usual quantity. For example, your kids’ clothes and diapers should be twice as many as what they normally use at home. This is to allow for unexpected incidents such as juices spilling or tummy problems which would require frequent changing of diaper or clothes.

To make sure you don’t overlook or forget some stuff when packing, here are some ideas that will keep your packing on track.

Mosquitoes repellent: Kids have very sensitive skin; especially, to the insects. Repellents can be bought on the island but it might not be the specific brands for children. Therefore, it is best to bring one on your own. Others repellent related products that you should consider bring along are:

  • Cot bed insect net
  • Plug-in repellent diffuser
  • DEET-free repellent wipes

Sun protection: Sunlight on Koh Samui is so strong that it can burn kids’ skin with just few minutes of an outdoor activity. Sunblock for kids are available at local shops on the island but they might not have the brand that you prefer. Therefore, it’s better to pack your kids’ sunscreen/sunblock. Other sun protection products you should bring along are:

  • UVP 50+ clothing (surfing shirt and shorts and sun buster hat)
  • High SPF, water-resistant sunscreen
  • Kids’ sunglasses

Kids’ Toys: Sure, they are bulky and may not seem important for the travel, but you’d be surprised at how your kids’ toys can make your traveling a lot easier. If you want to keep your kids entertained and happy, better prepare a kid’s rucksack packed with toys and colouring books for your little ones. To keep your kids enjoy the beach, you may want to pack a small inflatable pool floats.

Prescription medications and Electrolyte replacement solution: If your kids need to take special medication from the doctor, it’s important not to forget to include them in your list. Electrolyte replacement solution will come in handy if your kids get tummy problems.

Bean bag travel pillow/baby cart: This is not only for your child’s comfort but for parents’ as well.

Baby wipes: These will be very useful when you need to change their diapers on-the-go style or if they spill some milk or juices.

Snacks: Not only toys can keep them happy and entertained, snacks can also do the same trick. Try packing dried and light snacks such as dried fruits, snack bars and etc.
